The GTA

The term Golden Horseshoe Region was first coined in the mid 1990s, and referred to a very specific region of Canada. Today, that region has been greatly expanded. The idea behind this area is that it contains the largest concentration of people to be found in the country, with a growth rate much higher than can be found anywhere else. A part of the addition was the Greater Toronto Area.

In every horseshoe there is one nail that really makes the shoe stick to the hoof of the horse, in the same way a key stone will hold up a structure. Although the Golden Horseshoe region existed before the inclusion of the GTA in 2001, it can be said the expansion to include the 5 million plus people in this area really nailed the concept of what the Golden Horseshoe was all about.
