One of the great things about living in the Golden Horseshoe area of Canada is that when it comes to jobs, you can find virtually any career you are looking for. You can even train here in order to land that perfect career, whether that means going to the University of Toronto to gain a degree in Computer Science and work in a data encryption position or a trades college to work as a heavy duty mechanic.
Before you go and buy real estate anywhere, though, it is worth taking a look to see what kind of jobs are available in the different areas of the Golden Horseshoe. If your big dream is to sit at the helm of a Canadian Fortune 500 company, you might not see too many Toronto search firm reps coming through your office in Georgetown. Let's take a look at a few areas, and what they are known for.
First of all, a brief glance at the Big One, otherwise known as the city of Toronto. Here, it's possible for any dreams to come true. Whether you want to become one of the big five in Canada's major banks or work as a wedding videographer, Toronto is the place to be. The city is just that big, just that wealthy and just that important.
On the other hand, you may want to work in more of an industrial setting, where you can receive good pay without years of training. In that case, you should take a look at cities such as Hamilton, Oshawa, or even Burlington. All of these cities have a strong manufacturing and industry history.
Some communities within the GTA are becoming known more as great places to purchase affordable real estate than for their economic infrastructure. A Toronto realtor may tell you that cities such as Burlington are great for making a career, because people are eager to buy at lower (but not too low!) prices in locations close enough to make a commute to the bigger cities.
One the other hand, the very essence of these bedroom communities means that they offer unique careers of their own. People living in them still need to find someone to take their pictures, service their cars, or help them with a table rental. Oakville, Thornhill, Durham, and other centres can all support businesses offering services to their populations. And those businesses, of course, always need employees!
